WeChat Pay

Learn how to accept WeChat Pay payments.

WeChat is a Chinese instant messaging app with over a billion active users. By linking their WeChat profile to their bank account, these users can also make online and in-store payments with WeChat Pay.

WeChat Pay payments can be initiated in four ways, and each requires its own unique integration:

  • Desktop QR: The payment is initiated from a desktop web browser. The shopper is presented with a QR code, which they need to scan with the WeChat app to complete the payment.
  • In-app: The payment is initiated from your iOS or Android app. This opens the WeChat app, where the shopper is asked to enter their PIN to complete the payment.
  • In-store: The payment is initiated from an Adyen point-of-sale system. A QR code is presented on the terminal, which the shopper needs to scan with the WeChat app to complete the payment.
  • Official account (服务号): The payment is initiated from your WeChat Official page, loaded within the WeChat app browser. The shopper is asked to enter their PIN to complete the payment.

For most WeChat Pay payments, you'll receive immediate confirmation of whether the payment was successful. For a small number of payments you will not receive an immediate confirmation, and will need to rely on a notification to confirm whether the payment was successful.
