{"title":"Cancel or refund a payment","category":"default","creationDate":1778669839,"content":"<p>If you want to return the funds to the shopper, for example if they returned an item or if an item is out of stock, you need to cancel or refund the payment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the <a href=\"\/essentials\/payments-lifecycle\">payment status<\/a> is <span translate=\"no\"><strong>Authorised<\/strong><\/span>, you need to cancel the payment.<\/li>\n<li>If the <a href=\"\/essentials\/payments-lifecycle\">payment status<\/a> is <span translate=\"no\"><strong>SentForSettle<\/strong><\/span> or <span translate=\"no\"><strong>Settled<\/strong><\/span>, you need to refund the payment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To cancel or refund a payment, you need to have the <strong>Merchant manage payments<\/strong> <a href=\"\/essentials\/users#roles\">user role<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To cancel or refund a payment:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to <a href=\"https:\/\/essentials-live.adyen.com\/essentials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" class=\"external-link no-image\">Essentials<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Payments<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select or search for the payment you want to cancel or refund. If the payment can be canceled or refunded, you see a <strong>Cancel<\/strong> tab or a <strong>Refund<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Cancel<\/strong> tab or the <strong>Refund<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Refund amount<\/strong> box, enter the amount that you want to refund. This can be either the full authorised amount, or part of the authorised amount.
