Requirements for document uploads

Check the size, file format, and other required information when uploading documents.

Adyen tries to verify the account holder's entity based on the information that you provide. However, in some cases, the automatic verification might fail. This could be due to incorrect data or the data can't be verified. In these cases Adyen may ask the account holder to provide additional documents such as a passport, bank statement, or a business registration document.

Documents for individuals

In the EU, we may require photo identification (such as passport) of your account holders. In all countries, if the account holder's identity cannot be validated, Adyen may ask the individual to provide a photo ID.

Photo IDs

A photo ID is usually either a passport issued by the account holder's country, or a driver's license. When collecting a scan of a photo ID from your account holder, make sure that the name on the photo ID matches the name that they registered on your platform.

If the names are different—for example, an account holder used their married name to register but their passport has their maiden name—the photo ID check will fail.

The following are the supported photo ID documents and the data that must be provided for that document.

Documents for organizations

If the automatic verification for a business, nonprofit organization, a partnership, or a public company fails, Adyen may ask the account holder to provide a copy of their registration document. Documents are verified asynchronously. On average, the check will take about two days to complete.

The company registration document must be:

  • Issued by a reliable, independent source such as the national commercial register of the country where the business is registered in.
  • Issued within the last one year, or contains a signature and a state of affairs with the date not older than one year.

When you upload a company registration document, it must meet the following requirements:

  • Allowed formats: JPEG, JPG, PNG, or PDF (max. 2 pages)
  • Minimum allowed size: 1 KB for PDF, 100 KB for other formats
  • Maximum allowed size: 4 MB

Bank statements

When we are unable to verify a bank account, we may ask you for a scanned bank statement.

When you upload a bank statement, it must meet the following requirements:

  • Allowed formats: JPEG, JPG, PNG, PDF.
  • Minimum allowed size: 1 KB for PDF, 100 KB for other formats.
  • Maximum allowed size: 4 MB.
  • No maximum on the number of pages for PDF.

The document needs to contain the following information:

  • Bank logo or bank name in a unique font.
