Accessibility mode from the terminal

Learn how to make the terminal read out instructions to make accessible payments for visually impaired shoppers from your terminal.

For shoppers with visual impairments, you can activate accessibility mode in two ways:

Requirements

Before you begin, take into account the following requirements, limitations, and preparations.

Requirement Description
Integration type A Terminal API integration with payment terminals or a Standalone terminal solution.
Hardware
  • One of the following terminal models on software version 1.117 or later: AMS1, S1F2, S1F2L, S1E2L, and S1U2.
  • Optionally, a pair of headphones that can be used with a 3.5mm audio jack (S1F2, S1F2L, S1E2L) or a USB-C jack (AMS1 and S1U2).
Limitations Before you begin, keep in mind that Accessibility mode does not support:
  • Tipping
  • Giving
  • Signature as a car dholder verification method
  • The following languages: Estonian, Latvian, Icelandic, and Lithuanian
Setup steps Contact our Support Team:
  • Ask them to configure the accessibility mode.
  • Tell them if you want to extend the default timeout for the payment screens (2 minutes) and the PIN entry screen (5 minutes).

How it works

  1. You start a transaction as you normally do.
  2. You activate the accessible mode either by:
    • Plugging in a pair of headphones into the terminal's audio jack.
    • Selecting the accessibility icon.

      When the terminal is in accessibility mode, the timeout period is extended to give the shopper time to listen to the audio instructions.

  3. The terminal reads out the text shown on the terminal screen, and instructs the shopper on how to present their payment card.
  4. The shopper presents their card to complete the payment.

Activate accessibility mode through the terminal audio jack socket

It is possible to activate accessibility mode through the audio jacket at any step of the transaction. You cannot activate accessibility mode, when the terminal shows the PIN entry screen. Audio guidance continues through the terminal speakers if the shopper unplugs the headphones during a transaction.

To activate accessibility mode with the headphones:

  1. Start a transaction.
  2. Plug a pair of headphones into the terminal's audio jack socket.

The terminal exits the accessibility mode after a successful or canceled payment.

Activate accessibility mode with the accessibility button

After the accessibility mode is configured on your terminal, a member of your staff or shopper can activate the accessibility mode by selecting the accessibility icon . To revert the accessibility mode to normal mode, select the accessibility icon and, then double tap on the screen. The icon is not present on the PIN entry screen.

To activate accessibility mode with the accessibility button:

  1. Start a transaction.
  2. Select the accessibility icon .

The terminal exits the accessibility mode after a successful or canceled payment.
