[View source](/point-of-sale/design-your-integration/determine-account-structure/configure-features.md) The Adyen payment terminals support many features beyond the basic transactions of making, refunding, and canceling payments. Some advanced features require additional configuration steps. You can do this in your [Customer Area](https://ca-test.adyen.com/) or [using API calls](/point-of-sale/automating-terminal-management/configure-terminals-api). In some cases you need to contact our [Support Team](https://ca-test.adyen.com/ca/ca/contactUs/support.shtml?form=other) to complete the configuration. If you are looking for settings that moved or were renamed in the Customer Area, see [Customer Area UI change mapping](#customer-area-ui-change-mapping). Here we explain the effect of configuring features at different levels, and where you can find feature settings in your Customer Area. ## Requirements Before you begin, take into account the following requirements. | Requirement | Description | | ---------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Integration type** | A [Terminal API integration](/point-of-sale/get-started) or [Standalone solution](/point-of-sale/standalone) using Adyen payment terminals. | | **[Customer Area roles](/account/user-roles)** | Make sure that you have the following roles:- To view terminal features: **Merchant POS standard role** or **Merchant POS Terminal View role**. - To view and configure terminal features: **Merchant POS Terminal Management Admin role**. | ## Inheritance of settings You can define terminal settings at different levels. From high to low: * Company account level * Merchant account level * Store level * Terminal level The top level, above the company level, is the Adyen level. This is known as the *PSP level*. You cannot define settings at PSP level. Settings at the company level apply to all terminals under the company. Settings at the merchant account level override settings inherited from the company level and apply to all terminals under the merchant account, and so on. In other words: settings defined at a certain level propagate to all terminals at and under that level. But settings defined at a lower level replace values inherited from a higher level. To manage your terminals effectively, we recommend setting configurations at the merchant account level. In your Customer Area: * Settings marked Adyen default are configured by Adyen. If you hover over the tag, you will see **Inherited from AdyenPspService**. * If a setting is inherited from a higher level, that level is mentioned. For example: Company default * The navigation path at the top of the page shows the inheritance hierarchy. You can select a level in the navigation path to go to its settings page. * If a setting is enabled or disabled at a higher level, the toggle is grey. For example: | Toggle | Description | | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------- | | ![Toggle enabled at higher level](/user/pages/docs/03.point-of-sale/04.design-your-integration/04.determine-account-structure/02.configure-features/enabled-at-higher-level.png) | Inherited setting, enabled at a higher level. | | ![Toggle enabled at current level](/user/pages/docs/03.point-of-sale/04.design-your-integration/04.determine-account-structure/02.configure-features/enabled-at-current-level.png) | Enabled at the current level. | | ![Toggle disabled at current level](/user/pages/docs/03.point-of-sale/04.design-your-integration/04.determine-account-structure/02.configure-features/disabled-at-current-level.png) | Disabled at the current level. | ## When new settings take effect After you changed the settings for a feature, the changes take effect when a payment terminal updates its configuration during the next reboot hour. To use the new settings immediately, you can [update the configuration manually](/point-of-sale/managing-terminals/maintain-performance#update-the-configuration-manually). ## Payment methods The Adyen payment terminals accept global credit cards and Maestro out-of-the-box. If you also want to accept local credit or debit cards, wallets, or gift cards, you need to add these payment methods to your account. In your Customer Area, you can find payment methods under **Settings** > **Payment methods**. For an overview of supported payment methods and instructions, see: * [Payment methods](/point-of-sale/what-we-support/payment-methods) * [Add payment methods](/point-of-sale/what-we-support/payment-methods/add-payment-methods) * [Manage payment methods](/point-of-sale/what-we-support/payment-methods/manage-payment-methods) ## Find and edit settings To access Device settings: 1. Log in to your [Customer Area](https://ca-test.adyen.com/). 2. Switch to your merchant account. 3. Go to **Devices** > **Device settings**. Or to define settings at the level of an individual terminal, go to **Devices** > **Device list**, select the **Terminals** tab, and then select your terminal. The settings are organized into categories. You can find them under [**Device** ](#device), [**Device connectivity** ](#device-connectivity), [**Payment features** ](#payment-features), and [**Integrations** ](#integrations).
