{"title":"Assign terminals","category":"default","creationDate":1724055540,"content":"<p>To make a terminal ready to accept payments, you need to assign it to a store or a merchant account representing a store, and then board the physical terminal.<\/p>\n<p>There are three ways to assign terminals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/point-of-sale\/managing-terminals\/board-terminal#manually-board-your-terminal\">On the payment terminal itself<\/a>, by selecting a store during boarding. This method is not practical in case of a large number of stores to choose from or a large number of terminals, or if the terminal does not have a display.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"\/point-of-sale\/automating-terminal-management\/assign-terminals-api\">Through Management API requests<\/a>. This enables you to automate assigning terminals.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>From your Customer Area. You can pre-assign terminals to a store from the terminals list. From there, you assign the terminals to the stores where they will be boarded and used.<\/p>\n<p>To assign one or more terminals to the same store:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Customer Area:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For a test terminal, go to your <a href=\"https:\/\/ca-test.adyen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" class=\"external-link no-image\">test Customer Area<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>For a live terminal, go to your <a href=\"https:\/\/ca-live.adyen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" class=\"external-link no-image\">live Customer Area<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Go to <strong>In-person payments<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Payment devices<\/strong>, and select the <strong>Terminals<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Search for the terminal by serial number.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the terminal. You can either select its checkbox or click on the row of the terminal. Use the checkboxes if you are assigning multiple terminals to the same store.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select <strong>Reassign<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If a <strong>Terminal reassignment<\/strong> message appears, select <strong>Got it<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe message gives information about <a href=\"#reassign-boarded-terminals\">reassigning terminals that are already boarded<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the <strong>Store<\/strong> that you want to assign the terminal to.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sc-notice info\"><div>\n<p>Select an <strong>Inventory<\/strong> if you want to reassign a terminal from a store back to an inventory.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Confirm<\/strong> the assignment and <strong>Close<\/strong> the dialog.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"assign-terminals-in-bulk\">Assign terminals in bulk<\/h2>\n<p>If you have a lot of terminals to assign, or various stores that you need to assign terminals to, you can do that in one go by uploading a CSV file with the details.<\/p>\n<p>To assign terminals in bulk using the Customer Area:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>View the instructions for the file structure:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In your <a href=\"https:\/\/ca-test.adyen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" class=\"external-link no-image\">Customer Area<\/a>, go to <strong>In-person payments<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Payment devices<\/strong>, and select the <strong>Terminals<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>More options<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Bulk reassignment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the links to view a description and download an example file.<\/p>\n<!-- list separator -->\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Prepare your CSV file according to the instructions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In your <a href=\"https:\/\/ca-test.adyen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" class=\"external-link no-image\">test Customer Area<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/ca-live.adyen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" class=\"external-link no-image\">live Customer Area<\/a>, go to <strong>In-person payments<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Payment devices<\/strong>, and select the <strong>Terminals<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select <strong>More options<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Bulk reassignment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In the box under <strong>Upload your CSV file<\/strong>, select the file you prepared.<\/p>\n<p>If errors are found, fix the errors and try again.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select <strong>submit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"reassign-boarded-terminals\">Reassign boarded terminals<\/h2>\n<p>If you have a terminal that was already assigned and boarded to a store and now you want to use it for a different store, you must reassign the terminal.<\/p>\n<p>When you reassign a terminal that is boarded already, the terminal still uses the configuration of the old store until it synchronizes with the Adyen platform. The terminal then removes its configuration and shows <strong>Board the terminal<\/strong> again so that it can collect the new configuration.<\/p>\n<p>To successfully assign and board the terminals, note the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The terminals need to be turned on and have a stable internet connection.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>It can take up to three hours before the reassignment takes effect. That is because the synchronization of the terminal with the Adyen platform happens every three hours.<\/p>\n<p>If you want the reassignment to take effect instantly, you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enable <a href=\"\/point-of-sale\/diagnostics\/check-cloud-connection\/#use-the-customer-area\">WebSockets<\/a> before the reassignment.<\/li>\n<li>For non-Android terminals, update the configuration manually.
