Multifactor authentication

Learn how to keep your account safe by setting up multifactor authentication.

Starting on March 26, 2024, all Essentials users must use multifactor authentication to log in, unless they use Single Sign-On (SSO) to log in.

Multifactor authentication (MFA) helps keep your account safe by requiring multiple forms of verification in order to log in. This prevents unauthorized users from accessing your account, even if they have managed to obtain your username and password.

With multifactor authentication enabled, you must complete logging into your Essentials by entering an authentication code from your mobile device. An authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Okta Verify, or Microsoft Authenticator) generates the code on your mobile device.

Set up multifactor authentication

  1. In your Essentials, select your name from the left navigation bar > Profile.
  2. Under Multifactor authentication, select Add new method.
  3. Select your MFA method and set it up.
    • Authenticator app: a mobile application that generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) to log into online accounts. It provides an additional layer of security.
    • SMS authentication: SMS messages with time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) to log into online accounts. It provides an additional layer of security.

Authenticator app

You can use an authenticator app like (Google) Authenticator or Authy installed on your mobile device.

Follow instructions on the setup page to enable MFA with the authenticator app on your device.

If you get the success message, your device is registered for MFA. If you do not get the success message, reach out to your company administrator or your Adyen contact.

After you successfully register your device for MFA, each time that you try to log into your Essentials account, you must enter the code from the authenticator app.

Change the device for multifactor authentication

To change the device used for MFA:

  1. In your Essentials, select your name from the left navigation bar > Profile.
  2. Select the bin icon for the old device to remove it.
  3. Set up the authenticator app on your new device to work with your Essentials account by repeating step 3 above.

SMS authentication

With SMS authentication, when you log in to your Customer Area, we send you a message with a verification code you must enter to log in.

Follow the instructions on the page to enable SMS authentication.

If you get the success message, your phone number is registered for MFA. Every time you log in to your Essentials account, you must enter the code from the most recent SMS.
