Manage payouts

Learn how payouts work.

The funds for all transactions that Adyen processes for your users are sent to their payout accounts (bank accounts) in payable batches, based on their payout model. The payable batch closes according to the payout frequency you define. If the payable balance is positive when the payable batch closes, Adyen initiates the payout to your user.

The funds your users receive are calculated on a net basis. This means they get their sales from a given period, minus any costs over this period, such as refunds, chargebacks, and transaction costs.

Your users can add, change, or delete payout accounts in Essentials, but cannot configure the payout model or frequency. You must manage these settings in your Customer Area.

Payout models

Which transactions are assigned to a payable batch depends on your user's payout model:

  • Sales day payout: Your users get the funds from a whole sales day in a single payout batch, regardless of whether the card scheme or local payment method transferred the funds to Adyen. This is the default model for all users.
  • Pass-through payout: You users get the funds from one sales day in course of several days, depending on when the card scheme or local payment method transfers the funds to Adyen. In Latin America, Africa, and Turkey, this is the only available payout model.

Payout frequency

How often Adyen pays out to your users is determined by the payout frequency. Depending on the currencies and banks involved, it may take up to 2 days for the funds to arrive in your users' bank accounts.

On weekends and bank holidays, clearing for a specific currency may be closed and therefore Adyen cannot process payouts. For example, there are no USD payouts on 4th July. In case of EUR payouts, German bank holidays apply, because the European Central Bank is based in Frankfurt, Germany. For a list of bank holidays, download Adyen Observed Bank Holidays.

If your user belongs to one of the industries that requires delayed settlement, there may be additional delays on payouts.

Payout currencies

Adyen supports payouts in different currencies and offers like-for-like (no currency conversion) settlement if the currency is also supported as a settlement currency by the payment method. The currency in which we can settle the merchant account depends on the country of the acquiring connection used to route transactions. See the list of currencies supported in different countries for more information about configuring the currency of their payout account.
