Payment method types

Your users can accept payments from several payment methods. Adyen supports key payment methods across different regions, channels, and verticals.

• Card payment methods: Adyen's payments platform supports most global and local card payment methods. By default, all card payments are captured immediately after authorisation.
• Alternative payment methods: Allow your users to accept ecommerce, in-app, and in-person payments without using cards. These methods include bank transfers, direct debit, e-wallets, mobile payments and so on.

Add payment methods

As your users are not able to request new payment methods from Essentials, you must add them to their merchant account.
You can add payment methods to merchant accounts using:

• Management API: If your user has a business line, you must make POST /paymentMethodSettings call to configure payment methods for their stores.
• Customer Area: If your user does not have a business line, you can configure payment methods in your Customer Area.

Some payment methods require additional parameters. Make sure to collect this information from your users before adding the payment method.

To request a payment method, make a POST /paymentMethodSettings request with your user's merchant account in the path. In your request, specify:

Parameter	Required	Description
type		Payment method variant. Some payment methods require an additional object with payment method details.
businessLineId		The unique identifier of your user's business line that you want to request a payment method for.
storeIds		The id of the store that you get when creating a store.
countries		The list of countries to enable with the payment method. To enable all countries supported by the payment method, set to ANY or send empty.
currencies		The list of currencies to enable with the payment method. To enable all currencies supported by the payment method, set to ANY or send empty.

To add payment methods for your users in your Customer Area:

1. Log in to your Customer Area.
2. Switch to your user's merchant account.
3. Go to Settings > Payment methods.
4. Select Request payment methods.
5. If your user's merchant account is omnichannel, select whether to add an ecommerce or point-of-sale payment method.
6. (Optional) Select the country in which you want to add the payment method. By default, the merchant account's country is selected.
7. Select the payment method from the appropriate category, or start typing its name in the search field.
8. For point-of-sale users, select the store(s) in which to use the payment method.
9. Provide additional information for the payment method, if required.
10. Select Submit.

We will contact you if there are additional requirements before we can add the payment method to the merchant account.
