Payment method types
Your users can accept payments from several payment methods. Adyen supports key payment methods across different regions, channels, and verticals.
- Card payment methods: Adyen's payments platform supports most global and local card payment methods. By default, all card payments are captured immediately after authorisation.
- Alternative payment methods: Allow your users to accept ecommerce, in-app, and in-person payments without using cards. These methods include bank transfers, direct debit, e-wallets, mobile payments and so on.
Add payment methods
As your users are not able to request new payment methods from Essentials, you must add them to their merchant account.
You can add payment methods to merchant accounts using:
- Management API: If your user has a business line, you must make POST /paymentMethodSettings call to configure payment methods for their stores.
- Customer Area: If your user does not have a business line, you can configure payment methods in your Customer Area.
Some payment methods require additional parameters. Make sure to collect this information from your users before adding the payment method.
To request a payment method, make a POST /paymentMethodSettings request with your user's merchant account in the path. In your request, specify:

Supported payment methods
Payment methods that require additional parameters are currently not available through the Essentials onboarding flow.
