In your Customer Area, you can give your team members access to your merchant account by creating users. Each user has roles that control what they can see and do.
You can:
- Create users and choose their login method and roles.
- Manage roles and account access after a user is created.
- Deactivate users who no longer need access.
Requirements
Before you begin, take into account the following requirements, limitations, and preparations.
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Integration type | You must be onboarded as a franchisee by your franchisor. For more information, see Onboarding. |
| Customer Area roles | To manage users, you must have the following role: Merchant user management. |
How it works
- Initial setup: When you are onboarded, Adyen creates an admin user for your organization.
- Team provisioning: The admin user creates users for other team members and assigns their roles and merchant account access.
- First login: New users receive an email to verify their email address.
- Email and password users set a password and must set up multifactor authentication (MFA).
- Single sign-on (SSO) users log in through their franchisor's platform with no additional setup.
View all users
To view users:
- Log in to your Customer Area.
- Go to Settings > Users.
This opens the Users page, with a list of all users, the merchant accounts they have access to, and when they last logged in.
Create a user
To create a user:
- Log in to your Customer Area.
- Go to Settings > Users.
- Select Create new user.
- On the User details page, select a login method and enter the Username and Email.
- Select Continue.
- For Accounts, select which merchant accounts the user can access. You can only give access to accounts that your own user already has.
- For Roles, assign the roles the user needs. You can only assign roles that your own user already has.
- On the Summary page, review the details and select Create user.
The new user receives an email to verify their email address and set a password. On their first login, they must also set up multifactor authentication.
This verification link is valid for 24 hours. If the link expires, you must send a password reset email to the user.
Send a password reset email
If a user does not verify their email address or set their password before the link expires, send them a password reset email:
- Log in to your Customer Area.
- Go to Settings > Users, and select the user.
- On the User details page, select Send password reset.
The user receives an email to create a password for their account.

Add or remove roles
After you create a user, you can change their roles or the merchant accounts they have access to.
You can only assign roles and account access that your own user already has. For example, if you do not have the View key payments data role, you cannot assign it to other users. This restriction also applies to merchant accounts.
To add or remove user roles:
- Log in to your Customer Area.
- Go to Settings > Users, and select the user.
- On the User details page, select Roles or Accounts, then select Edit.
- Select Save.
Deactivate a user
To remove a user's access, you must deactivate them. For auditing purposes, you cannot delete users.
To deactivate a user:
- Log in to your Customer Area.
- Go to Settings > Users, and select the user.
- On the User details page, select Deactivate user.
- Select Save.
Reactivate a user
To restore a deactivated user's access:
- Log in to your Customer Area.
- Go to Settings > Users, and select the user.
- On the User details page, select Reactivate user.
- Select Save.
