iDEAL is the most used online banking method in the Netherlands, supported by all the major Dutch consumer banks. Nearly all online shoppers in the Netherlands know iDEAL, and have used it at least once.
When a shopper pays with iDEAL, they're presented with a list of issuing banks. After the shopper selects an issuing bank, they're redirected to the bank's website or mobile app to complete the payment.
If you integrate iDEAL through Adyen, you don't need to enter into contracts with iDEAL acquiring banks.
