Create and use risk profiles

Create risk profiles to manage risk settings and rules.

Risk profiles are used to manage risk rules across multiple merchant-level accounts, or to apply a different set of risk rules for a specific payment. For example, you can isolate low-risk from high-risk transactions, with different risk configurations for each profile.

Create a risk profile

  1. Log in to your Customer Area at a company level.
  2. Go to Risk > Risk Profiles.
  3. From the Create new profile based on drop down at the bottom of the page, select a default risk profile template.
  4. Select Create.
  5. Set your risk rule settings for the profile. See configuring rules for more information.
  6. Select Save Profile.

Risk profiles can be:

  • Assigned as the default profile for your merchant-level accounts: Assign a risk profile with your common fraud control settings to each of your merchant-level accounts without the need to set them for each account individually.
  • Dynamically assigned when you make a payment using /authorise or /payments: Override the default profile and apply a different risk profile for a specific payment.

Set a risk profile as default for a merchant-level account

To make this profile the default risk profile for your merchant-level accounts:

  1. Open the profile you created.
  2. Select the Used By drop down.
  3. Select merchant-level accounts from the list.
  4. Select Save Profile.

For larger lists, use the textbook to enter a comma-separated list.

To use this profile for specific payments only, take note of the riskProfileReference and use it to dynamically assign a risk profile to the payment

Skip Case Management on liability shift

The Skip manual review on liability shift option allows you to control when transactions with liability shift are sent to case management, such as for payments that have been sent through 3d secure, you can choose not to manage these cases.

If you have turned on Send to Case Management for an individual risk rule, this overrides Skip manual review on liability shift. The payment goes through 3DS and liability is shifted, but the payment still goes to case management.

Dynamically assign a risk profile to a payment

To override the default risk profile assigned on the merchant level, provide the riskProfileReference in the additionalData object of your /authorise or /payments request.

If riskdata.riskProfileReference is not provided in the request, the merchant-level account's default risk profile will be applied to the payment.
