User roles

Learn about different user roles in the Balance Platform Customer Area.

User roles are sets of permissions that determine what a user can do in your Balance Platform Customer Area. Your admin user account has all the roles that are available in your platform. You can use the admin user to create more users and assign them roles.

The admin user can only give out roles that they themselves have. This prevents users from giving out unwarranted permissions, thus helping to keep your account safe.

If you want additional roles in your platform, request them from your Adyen contact.

The following sections describe the user roles grouped by category:

General

The following roles allow you to create and manage platform resources:

Role The user can...

Balance platform admin role

View all the pages and personally identifiable information (PII) of users. Users can also manage platform settings, such as:
  • Create and manage users

  • Create and manage API credentials

  • Download and schedule reports

Balance platform base role

View all transfers, accounts, payment instruments, and the pages for Issuing .

Developer role

Create and manage webhooks and API credentials.

Manage hosted onboarding themes

Create, edit, and manage hosted onboarding themes.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

Account holders

The following roles allow you to manage account holders, legal entities, and capabilities:

Role The user can...

Manage account holder capabilities

Enable, disable, or request new capabilities for an account holder.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

Manage account holders and legal entities

Manage legal entities and transfer instruments in the Balance Platform Customer Area. They can also launch hosted onboarding.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

View account holders PII

View unmasked personally identifiable information (PII) belonging to legal entities of type individual, or sole proprietorship.
To use this role, the user must also have the Balance platform base role.

View KYC documents

See the list of documents that account holders have uploaded during their onboarding and based on which KYC checks have been performed.
To use this role, the user must also have the Balance platform admin role or Balance platform base role.

Download KYC documents

View and download the content of documents that account holders have uploaded during their onboarding and based on which KYC checks have been performed.
To use this role, the user must also have the Balance platform admin role or Balance platform base role.

Transfers

The following roles allow you to manage the transfers that occur in your platform:

Role The user can...

Initiate transfers

Transfer funds to a balance account or transfer instrument.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

  • View transfers

Manage sweep configurations

Create, activate, deactivate, or delete sweep configurations for a balance account.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

View bank transfers PII

View unmasked personally identifiable information (PII) related to third-party bank accounts that belong to individuals.
This role only applies to the Transfers page.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

  • View transfers

View transfers

View transfers and transfer details.

Card issuing (Embedded financial products)

The financial products that you offer in your platform have specific roles associated to them. The following roles allow you to manage card issuing tasks:

Role The user can...

Issue cards

Issue cards as payment instruments.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

Manage relayed authorization configuration

For Adyen Issuing, this allows users to configure relayed authorization settings.

Update card status

Change the status of a card.
To use this role, the user must also have one of the following roles:
  • Balance platform admin role

  • Balance platform base role

View payment instrument PII

View personally identifiable information (PII) on a card's delivery address details, if the card is being delivered to an individual contact.
To use this role, the user must also have the Balance platform base role.
