To start accepting payments, you must:
- Create balance accounts and stores for your users.
- Build your online payments or in-person payments integration with a corresponding user interface.
- Configure the payment methods that your users want to accept.
Split transactions
To make sure that the pay-in, settlement, and payout processes run smoothly, you must book the incoming funds and fees to the correct balance accounts. This means that in each individual payment, capture, and refund request that you send on behalf of your users, you have to include information on how to split the funds between your users' balance accounts and your platform's liable balance account.
Online payments
In your online payment requests, you can include specific instructions on booking:
- Payments for the goods or services in the payment or capture request
- Refunds
- Fees incurred by transactions
- Chargebacks and related fees
- Leftover amount after currency conversion
Your platform's commission is always booked to your liable balance account.
In-person payments
In your in-person payment requests, you can include specific instructions on booking:
- Payments for the goods or services in the payment or capture request
- Refunds
- Fees incurred by transactions
- Surcharges
- Tips (gratuity)
Your platform's commission is always booked to your liable balance account.
Split transactions automatically
You can configure the store to automatically apply your billing logic, for example, to your platform's commission, the transaction fees, or chargebacks. This means that you don't need to send split instructions in every payment or capture request.
When you apply a split configuration profile to your user's store, Adyen evaluates the rules in the split configuration for all the transactions processed through that store.
If you do not provide any split information, the whole transaction is booked to your platform's liable balance account, including all associated fees.
