When the terminal shows the message Terminal in Service Mode, this indicates that the terminal is running in a safe mode. Usually, the cause is that the terminal has an incorrect configuration.
First solution: Reboot the terminal
To reboot the terminal, either:
- Turn off the terminal, then turn it on again.
- On tethered terminals (without battery), open the Admin menu and select Reboot, or disconnect and reconnect the power cord.
Second solution: Update or remove the configuration
If after rebooting the terminal goes into service mode again or starts a boot loop:
- Try to open the Admin > Config menu, and update or remove the configuration.
If you removed the configuration, you need to board the terminal again.
Return or replace the terminal
If it is not possible at all to access the Admin menu and the terminal remains in service mode or in a boot loop, you cannot use the terminal anymore.
- Follow the instructions to return the terminal to Adyen.
If you need a new terminal, you can place a sales order for a new one. Or if you are using our Terminal Replacement Service, you can place a terminal replacement order to return the old terminal and get a new one at the same time.
Probably there is payment data stored on the terminal that wasn't sent to Adyen because the terminal went into service mode.
