Bancontact mobile Drop-in integration

Add Bancontact mobile to an existing Drop-in integration.

Our Web Drop-in renders Bancontact in your payment form, presents a QR code, and provides the payment result.

Before you begin

These instructions explain how to add Bancontact to your existing Web Drop-in integration. The Web Drop-in integration works the same way for all payment methods. If you haven't done this integration yet, refer to our Drop-in integration guide.

Before starting your Bancontact integration:

  1. Make sure that you have set up your back end implementation, and added Drop-in to your payment form.
  2. Add Bancontact in your test Customer Area.

Show Bancontact in your payment form

Drop-in uses the countryCode and the amount.currency from your /paymentMethods request to show the available payment methods to your shopper.

To show Bancontact in your payment form, specify in your /paymentMethods request:

Make a payment

When the shopper selects the Pay button, Drop-in calls the onSubmit event, which contains a state.data.

  1. Pass the state.data to your server.

  2. From your server, make a /payments request, specifying:

    • paymentMethod: The state.data.paymentMethod from the onSubmit event from your front end.
    curl https://checkout-test.adyen.com/v51/payments \
    -H "x-API-key: YOUR_X-API-KEY" \

           }
       ]
       ...
    }
  3. Pass the action object to your front end.

Present the QR code

Drop-in uses dropin.handleAction(action) function to present the QR code. After the shopper completes the payment, or if the shopper fails to complete the payment within the QR code validity period, Drop-in calls the onAdditionalDetails event.

Get the state.data from the onAdditionalDetails event and pass it your server.

{
 data: {
    details: {
      payload: "Ab02b4c0!BQABF..."
    },
    paymentData: "Ab02b4c0!BQABAgAKspbjN8+5..."
 }
}

Check the payment result

To check the payment result, make a /payments/details request containing the state.data from Drop-in.

curl https://checkout-test.adyen.com/v51/payments/details \
-H "x-API-key: YOUR_X-API-KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{

Present the payment result

Use the resultCode from the /payments/details response to present the payment result to your shopper. You will also receive the outcome of the payment asynchronously in a notification webhook.

For Bancontact payments, you can receive the following resultCode values:

resultCode Description Action to take
Authorised The payment was successful. Inform the shopper that the payment was successful.
Cancelled The shopper cancelled the payment. Ask the shopper whether they want to continue with the order, or ask them to select a different payment method.
Error There was an error when the payment was being processed. For more information, check the refusalReason field. Inform the shopper that there was an error processing their payment.
Pending
Received
The payment order was successfully received. Inform the shopper that you've received their order, and are waiting for the payment to clear.
You will receive the final result of the payment in an AUTHORISATION notification.
Refused The payment was refused. For more information, check the refusalReason field. Ask the shopper to try the payment again using a different payment method.

Recurring payments

We support recurring transactions for Bancontact through SEPA Direct Debit. To make recurring payments, you need to:

  1. Create a shopper token.
  2. Use the token to make future payments for the shopper.

Create a token

We strongly recommend that you request explicit permission from the shopper if you intend to make recurring SEPA payments. Being transparent about the payment schedule and the charged amount reduces the risk of chargebacks.

To create a token, include in your /payments request:

  • storePaymentMethod: true
  • shopperReference: Your unique identifier for the shopper.

When the payment has been settled, you receive a notification webhook containing:

  • eventCode: RECURRING_CONTRACT
  • originalReference: The pspReference of the initial payment.
  • pspReference: This is the token that you need to make recurring payments for this shopper.

Make a payment with a token

To make a payment with the token, include in your /payments request:

  • paymentMethod.storedPaymentMethodId: The pspReference from the RECURRING_CONTRACT.
You can also get this value by using the /listRecurringDetails endpoint.
  • shopperReference: The unique shopper identifier that you specified when creating the token.
  • shopperInteractionContAuth.
  • recurringProcessingModel: Subscription or UnscheduledCardOnFile.

For more information about the shopperInteraction and recurringProcessingModel fields, refer to Recurring transaction types.

Test and go live

Bancontact currently has no test platform. If you have a personal Bancontact account you can test your integration by either:

  • Making live payments with a low value.
  • Cancelling the transaction when you are asked to verify the payment.

Before you can accept live payments, you need to submit a request for Bancontact in your live Customer Area.
