KakaoPay is one of the most popular digital wallets in Korea. Users sign up for KakaoPay by registering with their national ID or bank account number. After they register, they can start funding their KakaoPay account by transferring funds from their bank account.
How to pay with KakaoPay
Shoppers can make a one-time purchase or sign up for a recurring transaction with KakaoPay:
After shoppers select KakaoPay on your website or mobile app:
- Shoppers are redirected to the Kakao website where they are prompted to scan a QR code using the KakaoPay app.
- Shoppers confirm the payment using biometric verification or their 6-digit PIN.
- Shoppers are redirected back to your website or mobile app.
- Shoppers get a KakaoPay notification informing them of their purchase.
After shoppers select KakaoPay on your website or mobile app:

Shoppers are redirected to the Kakao website where they are prompted to log in using their Kakao credentials or a QR code.
A notification is sent to the shopper in the KakaoTalk messaging app.
- Shoppers confirm the transaction by selecting a Login button in the notification, and logging in to their Kakao account.
- Shoppers are redirected back to your website or mobile app.
- Shoppers get a KakaoPay notification informing them of the recurring (or auto-debit) transaction.
When a shopper is redirected to KakaoPay, the redirect page is valid for 30 minutes by default. After 30 minutes, the page will timeout. If you want to change the link expiry, contact our Support Team.
