Swish Drop-in integration

Add Swish to an existing Drop-in integration.

Our Web Drop-in renders Swish in your payment form, presents a QR code, and provides the payment result.

Before you begin

These instructions explain how to add Swish to your existing Web Drop-in integration. The Web Drop-in integration works the same way for all payment methods. If you haven't done this integration yet, refer to our Drop-in integration guide.

Before starting your Swish integration:

  1. Make sure that you have set up your back end implementation, and added Drop-in to your payments form.
  2. Add Swish in your test Customer Area.

Show Swish in your payment form

Drop-in uses the countryCode and the amount.currency from your /paymentMethods request to show the available payment methods to your shopper.

To show Swish in your payment form, specify in your /paymentMethods request:

Country countryCode currency
Sweden SE SEK

Make a payment

When a shopper chooses to pay with Swish, Drop-in redirects them to the Swish app, depending on how they are accessing your site:

  • For shoppers on mobile, the shopper is redirected to the Swish app. If this fails, the shopper is presented a QR code as a fallback.
  • For shoppers on desktop or laptop, the shopper is presented a QR code.

Our Swish Web Drop-in uses screen size to determine whether the shopper is accessing your site on mobile or desktop.

When the shopper selects the Pay button, Drop-in calls the onSubmit event, which contains a state.data.

  1. Pass the state.data to your server.

  2. From your server, make a /payments request, specifying:

    • paymentMethod: The state.data.paymentMethod from the onSubmit event from your front end.

    The following code sample is a /payments request for a Swish payment.

    curl https://checkout-test.adyen.com/v52/payments \
    -H "x-API-key: YOUR_X-API-KEY" \

    }).then(res => res);

    The /payments response contains:

    • resultCode: Pending
    • action: The object you need to present the QR code or redirect to the Swish app.
    {
        "resultCode": "Pending",
        "action": {
            "qrCodeData": "D4XJQf4wJSQWYGBUue55Wy8TiV7t_r5vC",
            "paymentMethodType": "swish",
            "type": "qrCode",
            "paymentData": "Ab02b4c0!...==",
            "url": "swish://paymentrequest?..."
        }
    }
  3. Pass the action object to your front end. Drop-in needs the action object to either present the QR code or redirect to the app.

Present QR code

Drop-in uses dropin.handleAction(action) function to present the QR code. After the shopper completes the payment, or if the shopper fails to complete the payment within the QR code validity period, Drop-in calls the onAdditionalDetails event.

  • Get the state.data from the onAdditionalDetails event and pass it your server.

    {
     data: {
        details: {
          payload: "Ab02b4c0!BQABF..."
        },
        paymentData: "Ab02b4c0!BQABAgAKspbjN8+5..."
     }
    }

Check the payment result

To check the payment result, make a /payments/details request containing the state.data from Drop-in.

curl https://checkout-test.adyen.com/v50/payments/details \
-H "x-API-key: YOUR_X-API-KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \

Present the payment result

Use the resultCode that you received in the /payments/details response to present the payment result to your shopper.

You will also receive the outcome of the payment asynchronously in a notification webhook.

The resultCode values you can receive for Swish are:

resultCode Description Action to take
Authorised The payment was successful. Inform the shopper that the payment was successful.
Cancelled The shopper cancelled the payment. Ask the shopper whether they want to continue with the order, or ask them to select a different payment method.
Error There was an error when the payment was being processed. For more information, check the refusalReason field. Inform the shopper that there was an error processing their payment.
Pending
Received
The payment order was successfully received. Inform the shopper that you've received their order, and are waiting for the payment to clear.
You will receive the final result of the payment in an AUTHORISATION notification.
Refused The payment was refused. For more information, check the refusalReason field. Ask the shopper to try the payment again using a different payment method.

Test and go live

You need to contact Swish to set up a test account. Check the status of Swish test payments in your Customer Area > Transactions > Payments.

Before you can accept live Swish payments, you need to submit a request for Swish in your live Customer Area.
